Deon Parkh, who has been one of the managers at the investment firm Insight Partners for 26 years, discussed the current state of the investment market and his company's strategies in a session with TechCrunch in New York. Insight Partners, managing $90 billion in assets, has operated relatively quietly compared to other large investment firms.
Investment Challenges and Opportunities in AI
Parkh pointed out concerns about the risks associated with artificial intelligence during the session, stating, "There are risks, but I believe that the benefits of artificial intelligence are more significant than the concerns." He also noted that this technology could help accelerate the development of drugs and treatments for diseases. As a board member of NYU Langone, he emphasized that AI in analyzing patient data could aid in predicting health issues.

Diversity Strategy in Investment
Parkh continued by discussing the diversity strategy in Insight Partners' investments, saying, "We believe in investing in founders and companies, and our performance should speak through our portfolio rather than our loud voice." He also pointed out that the asset trading market is currently facing challenges, which is why Insight Partners is seeking new opportunities in early-stage investments.
This investment manager also mentioned competition in the market, stating, "We lost the competition to invest in companies like Legora to General Catalyst, but that's natural. We don't need to win every deal." Parkh also noted that currently, AI-related investments are significantly concentrated in San Francisco, although there is more geographical diversity in some sectors like financial services.
Finally, Deon Parkh referred to investing in competitors of OpenAI and Anthropic, which were previously considered taboo in the venture capital world, stating, "These decisions depend on the investment stage, and in the early stages, we have limitations on information sharing." He expressed that Insight Partners is looking for new and leading opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence, specifically focusing on companies developing physical AI technologies.
