Amodei, noting the rapid development of AI capabilities, is concerned that within 6 to 12 months, this technology could gain the ability to dominate the entire internet. In a note he recently published, he stated that these concerns have arisen due to the rapid advancements in AI and its increasing capacity for "self-improvement."
Three-Phase Plan for Safety
The CEO of Anthropic proposed a three-phase plan to slow down AI development in order to ensure its safety while still benefiting from its advantages. One of the key phases of this plan is to include independent safety evaluators in leading AI companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI. Amodei emphasized the importance of this phase for validating any commitment to the slowing process and stated that Anthropic is unilaterally committed to this obligation.
